Hanoi tours. Cat Ba island belongs to Hai Phong seaport city, about 100km from Hanoi. To travel from Hanoi to Cat Ba island, you have a few options depending on your preferences for time, convenience, and budget. In general the itinerary will be like this: From Hanoi you travel by car to Lach Huyen port in Cat Hai district, Hai Phong city (about 130km, 2 hours drive), from Lach Huyen you will catch a ferry at Dong Bai station in about 20 minutes, when you get to Cat Ba island you will need a short drive in 15 minutes from the ferry port to the centre of Cat Ba town.

- Bus and ferry combination: Many travel agencies in Hanoi offer bus and ferry packages to Cat Ba Island. You'll take a bus from Hanoi to Hai Phong City, and from there, transfer to a ferry that will take you to Cat Ba Island. This route provides a scenic journey.
- Bus to Cat Ba Island: Some bus companies operate direct routes from Hanoi to Cat Ba Island. These buses typically depart from My Dinh Bus Station or Luong Yen Bus Station in Hanoi and take you directly to Cat Ba Town. The journey takes around 3 to 4 hours depending on traffic and the specific route.
- Private Transfer: If you prefer more convenience and flexibility, you can arrange for a private transfer from Hanoi to Cat Ba Island. This option allows you to travel at your own pace and may include door-to-door service from your accommodation in Hanoi to your destination on Cat Ba Island.

Note: If you don't want to go by ferry you can choose high speed boat (travel time 10 minutes) or cable car (15 minutes) at Dong Bai port. If you go by car or motorbike you need to park your vehicles at the port.
